The new country

Saturday, May 5th. San Marino. Yesterday we decided to stay home because Arthur had a crappy night. Both Sean and I were exhausted. We didn’t think it would be wise for Sean to drive so far with the lack of sleep.

Today, though, we visited my first new country since we started our adventure. It is my 61st (passport) country. Since there are many ways to count countries, I’ve decided to count the countries I’ve been to based on the type of passports. Greenland and Denmark, for example, count as 1 because those from Greenland carry Danish passport.

So anyway… the drive from La Cetina to San Marino took about 4 hours. There were lots of winding roads and we passed by many small villages along the way.

When we got to San Marino, we parked the car as close as we could to the center. We got pretty lucky with parking, actually. We got a spot on Via Paolo III, just steps away from the main thoroughfare.

Once we parked, I suggested that we look for a restaurant because I was starting to feel hungry. Little did I know Sean had already looked up a good-rated restaurant for lunch. And yesterday, he made a reservation for us. It was a good surprise. He is so thoughtful! *insert love emoji here*

So we started walking to the restaurant. Along the way, some great view. I didn’t realize how high up this town is located.

We got a really nice table at La Terraza.

Lunch was also good.

After lunch, we walked around the Old Town part of the city. On the left side of the picture below, you could see La Terraza.

As we walked, we stopped by some shops to get some small souvenirs. I was most surprised by the gun shops! No, we didn’t purchase any. It was still interesting to see that you could purchase a gun easily, though.

The Old Town was quite interesting. The small streets, the uphill climb, the awesome views.

We got some ice cream at some point and then made the drive back to La Cetina.

We timed Arthur’s sleep with the drive. On the way back, we stopped a couple of times so that we could take him out of the car seat to feed, change, and hold him.

It was a good day. I’m glad we took the time to drive all the way out here. Not just to check out a new country, but also to enjoy the unique location and quirky shops.
