The blissful simplicity

Thursday, April 19th. Ljubljana. Last night, Arthur did not sleep as long as the previous night, but he still had an 4.5-hour stretch and then a 3-hour sleep, and a 1.5-hour sleep before he woke up at 7:30.

Just like yesterday, we stayed in bed until he got antsy. Then we got up and had breakfast. Afterwards, Arthur had a nap while we took a shower and got ready.

We started our day walking around the Old Town again. I wanted to find this antique shop I went to the last time I was here, but we couldn’t find it. We stopped by a couple of shops nonetheless. One of them was a toy shop where we got Arthur a ladybug hand puppet.

Then we crossed the Shoemaker’s Bridge and walked to the National Library.

Arthur got sleepy at some point so we decided to stop for lunch at Monstera. It was the number 1 restaurant on Trip Advisor.

We were the first customer and as we had our meal, more people entered. Some tried to make reservation for tonight but the restaurant was fully booked.

We had the three course lunch. Each dish was tasty and well-presented. Though my selections of (1) beef tongue and tuna with wasabi, (2) sirloin steak, and (3) lemon tart were better than Sean’s (1) Jerusalem artichoke soup, (2) beef cheek, and (3) chocolate brownie.

Sean used the bassinet to put Arthur to sleep right before main course, and Arthur happened to wake up right before we left. It worked out quite well.

We passed by Congress Square and the Museum area on our way to Tivoli City Park.

We didn’t stop at any of the museum. We wanted to spend a chunk of the time at the park instead.

After walking around a small part of the 5-square-kilometer park, we stopped by the cafe at the end of the long promenade to get some dessert. We had planned to sit for at least two hours on the grass, just chilling.

Once we got the dessert, we looked for a comfy place to put down the blanket and we made ourselves comfortable.

It was a very relaxing afternoon. When Arthur took a nap, we tried to take a nap as well. It didn’t work for me. Sean said he almost fell asleep, but then Arthur woke up.

It was nice to feel relaxed without the need to think of anything pressing. No work to think about, no obligations, no pressure. We were just spending time with each other, giving each other our full and purposeful attention. It was just bliss and it was so simple.

Around 4:30 we decided to pack up and head back.

On the way home, we bumped into musicians busking. I cannot quite explain the wonderful feeling I get from this place. It feels like my heart is filled with happiness and contentment.

Today was good. We were able to walk around slowly, eat really good food, relax in a park under a clear sky, surrounded by cool air and birds singing. The simplicity of it all was just blissful.
