The puppet master

Wednesday, April 18th. Ljubljana. Last night, Arthur had the longest stretch of sleep so far! 6 hours of sleep and then another 2 hours and 1 hour before he fully woke up at 7:15 in the morning.

We stayed in bed while Arthur kept himself entertained. We got up when he started to become antsy. Then we made some breakfast, put Arthur back to sleep for a nap, and took a shower. We left the house around 10:30.

We used “Visit a City” app to help us plan our sightseeing day. We started the day at Dragon’s Bridge.

Then we wandered around the Central Market. Sean got himself 400 grams of strawberries and 4 bananas for 5.50 Euro. He wanted to get the blueberries too but they cost 6 Euro for 200 grams.

As we made our way to Butcher’s Bridge, we bumped into a unique ice cream vendor. For being the first customer, they gave us a Kinder Bueno ice cream for free. Sean ordered a Ferrero Rocher mixed.

They took an actual Ferrero Rocher and some white chocolate, chopped them up on top of a very cold plate, mixed them together, and spread them very thin on the plate. Then they scraped the sheets and placed them in a cup. The result? Real Ferrero Rocher ice cream with no actual cream. Fascinating.

With the ice cream, we crossed the bridge to the other side of Ljubjanski River and sat on a colorful bench to feed Arthur.

The stairs had slopes built into them to allow for wheelchair accessibility. Looove it.

We thought Arthur was going to sleep, but he didn’t really want to. So we continued on to Ljubljana Cathedral with its funky sculptures on the door.

Inside the Cathedral, Arthur got cranky. I tried to put him to sleep but he refused. He got really loud instead so we stepped outside to try to put him to sleep again. After two minutes of fighting, he fell asleep. We only brought the bassinet stroller this time, without the car seat, so we placed him inside. But he woke up again. He didn’t like being placed on the bassinet. He would rather sleep in my arms. Sean had to rock him in the bassinet for a bit in order for Arthur to fall asleep.

Once Arthur was asleep, we walked towards the funicular station to take the funicular up to the castle.

Beautiful view at the top.

We went to Streljek at the castle to have lunch.

Arthur woke up during appetizers. Sean went to change his diapers before the main course arrived.

While waiting for dessert, we played with Arthur. He laughed for the first time with just a “What’s Up?!!!” Sean also made him laugh with a dance move. Very very very cute.

Then after dessert, we went back downstairs and put Arthur back to sleep.

The food, by the way, was so good. So so so good. It’s nice to know we can still do fine dining with a kid. Sure it’s not during dinner but lunch time fine dining is not bad either. Sometimes, it’s even better because there are very few people around during lunch time, we don’t have to make reservations in advance, and the price is cheaper.

While Arthur was asleep, we visited the Museum of Puppetry. We wanted to go to the chapel and virtual castle but they were not wheelchair accessible and we didn’t want to wake Arthur from his short sleep.

The Museum of Puppetry turned out to be really cool because we can play around with the exhibitions. There were only a handful of people in there as well so we practically had the whole place to ourselves to play around.

Sean wasn’t bad actually…

Arthur woke up as we were about to leave the museum. I decided to feed him while we were still inside. Then, instead of checking out the other exhibits in the castle, we decided to head back down to town.

We walked towards the Town Hall, then the Triple Bridge. The square was buzzing with life.

Then we walked to Shoemaker’s Bridge, walked along the small streets and alleys, and then headed home.

Such a good day. We got home around 6 and the sun was still out, but we felt quite tired with all the walking around.

Arthur took a nap while we cooked and had dinner. We played with him when he got up, and gave him a bath before he went back to sleep for the night.
