The sauntering day

Monday, March 12th. Helsinki. We had a late and slow start to our day. After breakfast, we decided to get ready to head out. Today is the only full day we have in Helsinki so we should really go somewhere or at least go out for a walk. I totally forgot that museums are generally closed on Mondays. So instead of a museum outing, we decided to head down to Old Market Place. It would be a nice quick and short walk through the city center.

As we got ready, I noticed Arthur was getting sleepy. So I bundled him up, put him to sleep, and placed him in the car seat/stroller. And we headed out.

It was snowing. There was a protest outside the apartment. We should have asked what it was for but we didn’t.

We took out the rain cover and placed it over the stroller. It should protect Arthur from the wind and snow. He was in his cocoon sleeping.

The walk was refreshing. It was cold but not too bad. It wasn’t as windy as Iceland.

When we got to the waterfront, we took some pictures. The outdoor open market did not have many stalls. I’ve been to Helsinki many times, and today seemed quiet. There were not as many outdoor activities.

After some time, we got to the Old Market Place.

It was warm inside. We checked on Arthur. He was still asleep and he looked so comfortable.

We got ourselves a warm drink from Robert’s Coffee and took our time walking around.

We also got some salmon sandwich and reindeer salami.

And reindeer chips.

The bag of chips was a pricey purchase. How did it taste? Not so good. Perhaps it is meant to be an acquired taste. I have yet to acquire it. I had two chips and had to stop. It had a heavy iron and game taste. Perhaps it would be better to eat it with something else? Something more bland to balance the taste.

After Old Market Place, we walked around in the direction of the apartment. It hailed for about a minute.

Through the cathedral, some Finnish shops, and the Kamppi.

We were out of the house for almost 3 hours. Arthur slept throughout. As soon as we got back in the apartment, though, he woke up crying. As if on cue.

The rest of the time, we spent chilling in the apartment. And I literally meant “chilling.” The apartment was cold. The Airbnb owner still hadn’t respond to my heat question. It wasn’t bad as the evening progressed but I would have definitely preferred a warmer apartment.

Tomorrow we head to Tallinn.
