Before Arthur was born, Sean and I talked about the possibility of traveling with him during my maternity leave. Sean was going to resign from his job so that the three of us can travel for an extended period of time.
I started “planning” the trip in early December. What that meant, really, was for me to look at the destinations and the feasibility. Europe was an easy destination. I’ve been to most countries in Europe, but Sean hasn’t, and with a newborn, we have to be a little bit more cognizant of our surroundings. I also looked at Australia and New Zealand combo.
I looked at the calendar and google maps, and started mapping our journey. Europe seemed to be more enticing. We would be hitting a couple of countries, starting in Iceland and then the Baltics and making our way down to Portugal. Sean and I talked about the itinerary but we thought we should revisit the idea after the birth. Who knows? Maybe we wouldn’t want to go anywhere with the little one.
We revisited the idea in January when Arthur was 3 weeks old and after some discussion that included length of time, budgeting, and safety, we made a commitment to traveling.
Today is Tuesday, February 13 and we have everything set. All flights, trains, buses, car rentals, accommodations, and even some museum tickets and tours are booked and confirmed. Everything from February 26th to June 2nd. In 96 days, we will go through 19 countries and stay in 27 different accommodations. We will be flying into London and out of Lisbon.
With two hiking backpacks, a diaper bag, a purse, a stroller, and a car seat.
